Y’all have until Monday, August 24th to vote in the 74th Annual DownBeat Readers Poll

(I’m not sayin’ anything, I’m just sayin’.)

Scott, on the other hand, implores:

If we can elect an African-American man with an Islamic name President of the United States, getting non-mainstream jazz artists and labels some love in a poll like this should be a snap.

There’s been an almost staggering amount of blogospheric back-and-forth about Terry Teachout’s WSJ piece “Can Jazz Be Saved?” and Nate Chinen’s response in the NYT. I already said my piece in the comments at Nate’s blog, but I will also add that one way jazz might signal its relevance to younger listeners would be if forward-thinking young musicians — like for instance, some of the artists we are delighted to share the stage with at this year’s New Languages Festival — showed up in polls like this.
