Jazz? Jump Blues? Texas Swing? Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown defied categorization. How ’bout one hell of a guitar player? Others may get credit for the idea of having a guitar lead a big band, but Gatemouth had been doing it like nobody’s business for a long time, and was still doing so when cancer caught him in 2005 at the age of 81.
